Shintaro Akatsu Gallery – Identity
Create a logo, business card, & A4 folder for the Shintaro Akatsu Gallery that accurately conveys the contemporary style of Azabu, Japan and the art to be featured in the upscale space. Traditionally, putting a frame around an image or scene permanently renders it a piece of art. What is considered suitable for framing, however, has changed drastically over the centuries. I created a simplified frame corner and placed it over the rising sun (“Akatsu” meaning “rising sun” in Japanese), elevating the ordinary to the extraordinary. The graphic, read as a capital letter A, can also be seen as a stylistic rendering of a mountain and rolling clouds cast in the sun’s light.
